If I Could Make Up A Random Top 25 Countdown, as of right now, in no particular order ...
(25) "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", Elvis Costello w/Burt Bacharach -- If I could ask a girl to dance ...
(24) "Bad Days", The Flaming Lips -- If I could find the drawing of this song that I made in French class in high school ... the very same French class I shared with Sir Brian, who is currenlty becoming one of my favorites in these here blogging circles ... I know I would cringe at it.
(23) "Without Me", Eminem -- Not the first white person to do black music, but one of the first white people to make rapping sound so smooth.
(22) "Cashout", Fugazi -- Because big business is currently fucking everyone over, and because this song is mindblowing.
(21) "The Stalker", Piebald -- Songs about obsessive habits have their own niche in our society. Think I'm joking, reference "Every Breath You Take" by the Police, or maybe "Yellow" by Coldplay. Hmm ...
(20) "Timbomb Generation", Strike Anywhere -- This song has the greatest opening line, ever ("your children are shooting up society").
(19) "One Mic", Nas -- Rap music with dynamics. Rap music that denies the necessity of "bling bling".
(18) "Sink to the Beat", Cursive -- Indie-rock with rap?! It's too bad I hated this band until this past spring.
(17) "French Mistake", Denali -- I want to see the person behind this voice.
(16) "Monsoon", ...and you will know us by the trail of dead -- Not so much for the beginning of the song. Moreso for the end. It's just so deep and orchestral at times. I can't believe I like it so much.
(15) "These Arms of Mine", Otis Redding -- How does one man's voice so sound sweet and so desperate at the very same time?
(14) "Super Bon Bon", Soul Coughing -- My friend Nate used to make me listen to these guys. That was a long time ago.
(13) "Track #2", The Mt St Helens -- I don't have the names of the songs on my copy. I won't disturb you, once again, with the details of how incredible this album is.
(12) "Lapdance", N.E.R.D. -- I like this group because I have absolutely no idea what to think about them.
(11) "We've Gotta Get Out of This Place", The Animals -- As a tribute to me da'.
(10) "Animal Farm", The Kinks -- Because I hate it so very much, yet am intrigued by the subject matter. Drugs? Anyone? Drugs?
(09) "Measure 3", Matt Pond PA -- Because an independent rock band with seemingly no ambition (in a good way) wrote a song about not wanting to have too much ambition (in a good way).
(08) "Crawling Can Be Beautiful", Les Savy Fav -- Matt forced me to listen to this. I swear. He had a gun up to my head and kept forcing me to push play over and over again. Dancing? Anyone? Dancing?
(07) "The Promise", Hey Mercedes -- Because it sounds almost nothing like Hey Mercedes ... and it's a damn fine song.
(06) "O'Rourke's, 1:20am", The Good Life -- This man leads the life that I wish I led. Relatively obscure side project about drinking and falling desperately in love with people, and rejection, and booze.
(05) "God Only Knows", The Beach Boys -- Brian Wilson is from another planet. Pet Sounds proves it.
(04) "Lullaby", Ben Folds Five -- Because I'm so tired right now.
(03) "Street Spirit", Radiohead -- Because The Bends is still their best album to date.
(02) "City Of Ruins", Bruce Springsteen -- His new album comes out tomorrow!
(01) "Jealous Guy", John Lennon -- Because he died too soon.
I will not edit this list. I will not edit this list. I will not edit this list ...
Oh, fuck. You're all going to laugh at me anyways. Time to fall asleep, but not before I read some more Anti-Religious Propaganda. Night.
