ZooK

Is this it.

Well, today. No union rants, no ranting period. Boos do go out, however, to whoever broke into Jarred from deadpan's 1983 Ford Escort***1*** and ripped open his glove box. Too bad for them he's like me and doesn't have a goddamn thing to steal from the inside of his vehicle. Bravos to Jarred for letting the Hero borrow the new Strokes album, which I like at first listen.

Greg's got good stuff to say. Plus he has pictures of Italy, while we have pictures of Marcie's dunlap (soon, anyway).

I am now fully convinced that Bill Maher's Politically Incorrect is the only show on television worth watching when it comes to actual discussion of world events. Last night there were only three guests, which actually helped the guests get their points across without being interrupted every ten seconds as is s.o.p. If they could extend it to an hour, and not play commercials (as the networks had been doing in the midst of the crisis), and have Noam Chomsky***2***, David Foster Wallace, and Cornell West as the guests, we would have the greatest hour of television since we were introduced to Laura Palmer. Imagine DFW laying into George Bush....ahhh. And I don't agree with everyting Maher says, sometimes he's a bit of an egotistical ass, but at least he's a voice of dissent in a world of smiling faces bearing terrible news. Ryan was telling me that Jonathon Franzen was on NBC last week, and I remember seeing him while the boys and I were at the bar. She said that he voiced an opinion that the U.S needed to take a step back and not assume anything about the terrorists, and Tom Brokaw cut him off and then never went back to him. We deserve more than that from our news media.

There has been no better description of a person, ever, than that of Marcie saying a girl looked like "the girl in the leather coat from Saved By the bell". I totally know what he's talking about, sadly. Bravo.

Next five: "I didn't come here to die" by spoon; "new york city cops" by the strokes; "lonesome eyes" by chris lee; "tuesday's gone" by lynrd sknrd; and "ben folds ain't singing a goddamn thing about the suburbs I grew up in" by soil nale.

in the stereo: spoon "soft effects" EP

***1***exact make and model unknown, it's little and red.
***2***Pronounced like home, but with an "N". I heard someone on WGN Radio call him NO-ham yesterday, and didn't know if it was common knowledge, since the networks won't let him on TV.
