Trying to blind my lonesome eyes.
It has come to my attention, quickly, that Marcie is not Pro-Union. This is disheartening and makes me wonder if I am in the minority in my complete and full support of Unionization on all fronts. Yes, there is corruption in the system. Yes, some workers take advantage of the system by using seniority as a way to stop working. But there is also the beautiful idea that a worker who has given service to a company over a course of decades can't just be thrown out on the street whenever the company feels their salary has become too high.
To give an example, my uncle is a Union worker who has worked in lumber yards for almost 40 years. A few years ago, when the yard he had worked in his whole life shut down, the Union found him a new job and thus a way to keep his pension, which he has definitely earned and then some. Hard work deserves fair pay and fair benefits. Non-unionized jobs provide this in some cases, but for blue collar workers these companies are becoming more and more scarse.
And I am of the humble opion, being the son of a blue-collar worker, that fair wages and universal health care and worker's rights/safety are more important than, say, a tax cut that provides a small amount to a small few and a large amount an even smaller few. Or a war against an invisible enemy.
So, in summation, we are now two thirds in favor of unions***1***, which still means you can count on us. Except that capitalist pig Marcie, who wants the common man to wallow in despair. Dirty bastard.
next five: "on 3" by the farewell bend; "just don't say you lost it" by hot water music; "act surprised" by superchunk; "new noise" by the refused; and " Workers of the World, Marcie doesn't need you" by lois lane.
In the stereo: chris lee "plays and sings torch'd songs, charivari hymns & oriki blue-marches"***2***
***1***here's me assuming again. I have to believe that Scott, as a teacher in a unionized school district, is pro-union. Though he might not be.
***2***People from Brooklyn need to get some air, or at least figure out what the hell is going on with themselves.
