HAPPY (bzz bzz) BEE-LATED BIRTHDAY TO US! Whoops. Looks like we done fucked up and missed our birthday. We've been a collective blog for over three years now (02/12/01 to be exact). Of course, the shape of the blog has been better than in recent memories, but I guess that's just what happens when people grow up. I know, speaking on my own behalf, that things have not been the same as usual for the past few months. I've settled in nicely to my student-teaching position, and am currently helping to mold the mind of those wonderful little people we call high-schoolers. One student referred to me as "White Chocolate" late last week. I think that's a decent assessment.

I would like to send out a special internet hug to Matt Fast, who desperately could use our love and thoughts at the moment. To Matt, Quinn, Neil, and anyone else who needs it, you are in my thoughts at the moment. I hope things are getting better. Much love.

I do have some exciting news for those of you who don't listen to the radio, or for those of you who don't watch television, or for those of you who don't surf too much on the internet - Greg Maddux is a Cub again! It is time, now, for the psychological healing to begin. We have Mad Dog back. We can finally move on. I was talking to my pal, Jeff, over the summer about watching Maddux pitch in a Braves uniform, and all I remember repeating was, "I still cannot picture him as anything other than a Cub." I guess Zach's "$IGN MADDUX!" sign at the Cubs Caravan stop here in Blormal worked. He held it up from our seats, just two rows back from the table with Baker, Prior, Wellemeyer, and Billy Williams in attendance. Mark Prior pointed out the sign to Dusty Baker who merely pointed and laughed, but I think he got Zach's point - sign the fucking guy.

What a great start to the day.

Of course, there have been some sad revelations lately. Tony Kornheiser is going to be wrapping up his radio show on March 26. I've been religiously watching PTI for a little over a year now, and have been listening to the radio show for about half that time. Kornheiser is that voice for me - that voice that I could listen to for hours and hours while I do other things (drive to work, put together lesson plans, piddle around on the internet, etc) and to think that my daily 2 hour 53 minute dose of the radio show will be gone in just over a month is kind of disheartening. If you click on the above link and look at the sidebar on the right, you'll find a fairly decent farewell explanation given by the old, orange, fat one, and it speaks volumes to his character - the man just doesn't seem like he puts up with a lot of shit, and doesn't care much what others think about him. He gives this decent explanation of why he's leaving (apparently not enough people in the major markets - including Chicago, where he's been yanked off the air and replaced with that hack, Jay Marriotti - are listening) and then launches into a fairly heartfelt talk about how radio tends to be a more personal medium than print or television (which I agree with). At the end of the six and a half minute segment concerning his departure closes with this quote, "Chad, was that on the air, or did they pull the plug seven minutes ago?" What a great, postmodern way to end a farewell speech.

In honor of Greg Maddux's return, please pop in "First Day Back" by Braid and wallow in the memories. Here's to you and yours. Have a nice month.
