Marc

I hate the way my posts look on this page on days like today, where everyone else posts two or three lines, and I have these gargantuan block paragraphs.

Jesse supposedly left today. I'm sitting around the aparment, kind of waiting for him to call from his hotel to tell him goodbye, and tell him to kick someone's ass in the joust, and to reassure him of my latest promise to him -- if he comes back looking, acting, being an army-d-bag I'm going to give him something to think about. Could be a punch. Could be a solid kick in the ribs. Could be some choice words. But, I assure you, the chance of this happening is about five percent. No real fears on my side. If I were him, I'd be shaking in my boots.

Today was kind of an interesting day. In one class we talked about David Sedaris' "Santaland Diaries", which I wasn't able to read due to a lack of text, thanks to the local copy place. But, I was exempt, although listening to the conversation ramble on made me jealous that I hadn't been able to read it. I will tomorrow probably. For Tuesday, we have to read DFW's "Getting Away From Getting Away From It All", which I read a year ago, and am very much looking forward to reading again. I'm curious to see what some of these people in my class will have to say about this one. I love it, but I think I'm prejudiced,

In the very next class, we spent an entire hour and fifteen minutes watching a video that discussed how to teach about gay and lesbian issues in elementary schools. This video confirmed two sneaking suspicions I've had for awhile: (1) Younger kids are the smartest, most observant people around. Nothing gets past them. Literally nothing. I watched as first graders talked about whether or not gay and lesbian marriages should be legal or not. One girl had two boys in her group and said, "If you two were a gay couple, how would you like it you were told that you couldn't marry each other? Let's say the laws were different, and straight people weren't allowed to marry, how would you feel if you wanted to marry me?" Shit. That about says it all. (2) Politicians are the scum of the Earth. They spliced together clips of these young kids saying extremely intelligent, open-minded things, and followed it with various senators and congressman talking about how evil gay society is and how we shouldn't let it seep into our society. Powerful stuff. I'm thinking of going to the library and renting it and maybe trying to pirate a copy to use when I actually get a job.

I'm out.
