54. Ben Folds Five--Ben Folds Five

Technically, since Folds isn't the artist here but rather the band's name, Ben Folds Five are under BE in the alphabetical listing of CDs. This record knocked me on my ass back in the day, so great so great. Still is, though the later output put me in the position of absolutely hating what was once one of my favorite bands. It's not the success, it's the albums that followed the success. It seems as if they stopped trying, and were just out for the dollar. Once that happens, you lose me. Fer sure.

Tomorrow night, Ryan Adams on Letterman. Round 11:30. I'll be there. Watching him become a star.

Sorry if I offended anyone with my Dave Matthews comment. I stand by it, I'm just sorry you're offended. He's offensive to me, his cultist fans are offensive, the fact that his "band" has released five "official" live albums is offensive, the fact that he discourages live show trading b/w his fans is offensive, the fact that EVERY person I seem to meet here other than the punk kids (who, just as offensively, have their own Dave Matthews-like Obsessions with other bands) has Christ-like admiration for a man who has managed to write the same album four times without getting called on it. So, yes, Dave Matthews bothers me. You don't bother me if you like him, but obsession in general bothers me.

Thank you.

NExt five songs they would play, if you and I were in a Dante-esque hell: "what would you say?" by dave matthews band; anything off the new elliott record; the Locust; anything by Three doors down; and "leaning the room" by planes mistaken for stars, cos we are in hell, aren't we?

the stereo plays: new end original. Not so thrilling.
