Marc

Most really pretty girls have pretty ugly feet, and so does Mindy Metalman, Lenore notices, all of a sudden. -- from Broom of the System by David Foster Wallace.

Santa Rosa, California
One. Scoot and Libbi's wedding was fantastic. Hands down one of the best possible times ever to be had in a place where everyone was dressed up. Unfortunately, my knees are still reeling from trying to toss the best man between my legs on the dance floor. Oh, and from deciding that sliding into each other knees first would be a good idea. Scoot and Libbi were on the dance floor from song one, I believe, though I was getting a bit tipsy towards the end of the night. My "date" and I were also on the boogaloo for most of the night, and I will say only this one thing about her -- she looked fabulous.

Two. Luke did puke on the table. That much is true. The guy who sat next to me at my table, after me asking him whether or not he was drinking -- after I proclaimed, "I'm wasted!" -- puked in a cup. He was also telling everyone that we should convince the dj's to bring their equipment onto the deck at the reception. Even drunk that didn't sound like a good idea.

Three. You know what? Screw it. The whole damn weekend was a blast. I was honored to be part of the wedding, and honored to know two wonderful people -- and I know I'm not sucking up cause they're in Hawaii right now and will not be reading this at all. It was just fun. But, if you think about it, and if you know Scoot (and this isn't just me talking here -- remember that "date" I mentioned earlier? She deserves most of the credit for this next statement) you'll realize that the people he knows and considers his friends are the types of people that you would want to be around, and the types of people that would be very easy to have fun with. The whole weekend, from start to finish, was hilarious, even including the rehearsal which, by virtue of the fact that it's a run-through for a wedding ceremony, should be boring. But, believe me, it was not.

Four. I'll stop gushing now. Onto a topic change. I've finally found a copy of DFW's Broom of the System, and for only $6! Picked up some other books as well at this dingy little used bookstore here in Santa Rosa. If you're curious, they are Richard Wright's Native Son, Sloan Wilson's The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit, and Salman Rushdie's Fury. The summer of reading continues. I can almost guarantee that I'll get through at least these four books before school starts again, as I'm going to Hawaii two more times. One for fun, the other for work. Frequent flyer miles, begin piling up.

Up Next: Amy Grant singing a goddawful version of "God Bless America" at the MLB All-Star Game; The NL actually leading the MLB All-Star Game; and, a shower quickly followed by a jump into bed with DFW and TBotS.
Tomorrow: Fulton, Forestville, Graton, Penngrove, and Cupertino CA.
