One. I think my dad is going senile. He spent nearly seven straight minutes yesterday talking about various, large balls of twine, and how, though some claim they are the biggest in the world, there are variations on the qualifications that effect their categorization. He, himself, was photographed next to the largest "manmade" ball of twine in Lebanon, Kansas last week, and has told me that I should really take time out of my busy schedule to go and see it. Thing is, there's a group in Minnesota who claim to have the largest ball of twine in the world, which they did until the Lebanon KS people decided to keep adding to theirs, thus the largest continuous ball of twine is in Kansas. He told me about a much more controversial ball of twine in Colorado, but it's considered uncountable in the contest because it's made by a machine. I love my dad. I'm just wondering if this is the point where his personality disappears, and from here on out it's just crazy stories about stuff that doesn't matter. I hope not.
Two. I saw this truck today, which as a very important message painted on its backdoors:
I despise people who pass on the right in regular interstate settings. When traffic's crowded in the cities, and blah blah, then I'm okay with it. But, mostly, passing on the right is dangerous. Don't be that guy -- or girl.
Three. Spent a good percentage of my day bumming around in airports, waiting for various mechanical problems on the planes I was to fly on to disappear or be fixed. I like United, my carrier, but I have a feeling it has more to do with the number of frequent flyer miles I've amassed with them than anything else. That, and they let me board the plane before the regular people, which probably includes you. Sucker.
Four. So, if anyone knows of anything fun to do in either Salina, Hays, or Wichita KS during the next few days, please fill me in. I'll be driving, mostly, but I'm up for cool tourist type attractions -- like that huge ball of twine. Problem is, I can't find the town on the map. I wonder where the world's largest superball is located. Or where the biggest toilet ever used is. Kansas?
Up Next: More Libra; Phrenology by the Roots; and, Hail to the Thief by Radiohead.
Tomorrow: Hillsboro. Lost Springs. Saint Mary's. Ellsworth. All Kansas! All this week!
