Since maybe like the Middle Ages, there have been many differing opinions about hustle and bustle. This cannot be denied. -- Kyle "The Yellow Dart" Smith, in "A Well Thought-out Englilsh Paper."
One. Strong Bad writing people's English papers. If you watch it you'll get the joke I've already played on you. How do these writers do this cartoon? They don't advertise, as far as I can tell. They sell shirts. They have a new cartoon every week. And it's so ridiculously funny. Dry. Over the top. Intelligent. Kids like it. Semi-adults love it. College students adore it. Huh.
Two. I've spent time scanning through the university library's article databases tonight in search of critical reviews of HBO's Six Feet Under episode. I think I may have come up with a topic that I could write about. Only problem is that I don't have to turn in any English papers until next semester. Buggers. What's the topic? you ask. Here -- The use of a father's visions as character motivations; Is he a ghost, or a figment of the imagination? Damn straight. For the character of David, for example, Does he use his Dad's acceptance of his homosexuality in his visions to indulge David's self-satisfaction or does it spurn him towards rationalized decisions based on a religious belief in the sinfulness of homosexuality?
It may not make sense now, but I needed to write it down. I didn't want to forget it.
Three. I purchased the new Postal Service lp this afternoon. Luckily, for Zach at least, it does not displease me. In fact, I kind of like it. The first song -- forgive me for not remembering the name (this is what I hate about buying the actual cds, I never remember the song names b/c I don't have to find them by name on my computer's hard drive) -- is one of those rare songs that I've encountered that is able to make almost purely electronic sounds emote a mood. Too often, in my limited contact with electronica, I find people simply beating you over the head with their melodies/music. But, like I said, I don't listen to too much in that vein. Gibbard's voice is astounding at times, especially when complemented by a female back.
Four. Madden is slowly taking over my life. I must make the playoffs this year. I'm 5 and 5 right now, though I've got the top QB and WR in the game. I resigned them both the other day before their stats go up too much. $8.45 million for the wide receiver over four years. $10.25 million to the quarterback over the same period. If I ever get desperate I can trade either one for an entire slew of defensive players and high ranking draft picks. I'm trying to be on top, but I know that within the blink of an eye I could face having to rebuild my team from scratch. Either way, I'm ready for the challenge.
Kornhaiser: Look at me reach with my hand. Oh my, the swelling!
Wilbon: Elephant Man Hand.
In the batter's box: "The District Sleeps Alone" by the Postal Service.
On Deck:"The High Party" by Ted Leo/RX.
In the Clubhouse: "I Know There's an Answer" by the Beach Boys.
Riding Pine: Max Kellerman from Around the Horn
