Holy shit. I cannot believe that those Dashboard Douchefessional lyrics are the first post of the day. God, Matt, I hate you ... so very very much.
The Reel Big Fish show tonight was a smashing success. I think a whole ton of people were expecting me to fail, because ... well, I've been told, more than twice now, "dude, no offense, but I thought that you were going to mess at least one song up completely ... but you didn't, man, it sounded really great!" At which point I just kind of smile and say "thank you" as meekly as possible. Inside I melt, though. Completely.
I had so much fun, and there were so many people there. The place was brim full of little teeny-boppers pressed up against the stage, staring wide eyed at you, like you were inhuman or something. I even signed an autograph tonight. How funny is that? I told the kid, "you know I'm not actually in the band, right?" And he just says, "no, but does it really matter? ... You guys rocked!" and then he throws up the rock fist, and grabs the signed setlist and says thank you a bunch of times, and asks me if I could grab one of Reel Big Fish's picks off the stage before I head back to THE DRESSING ROOM.
That's right. There was a dressing room. Of course, it was full of RBF's extra equipment cases, and a whole bunch of stray chairs, but it also had a bucket of free beer, and a box of water, and some couches. Mmm ... couches. I guess I'd just really like to say thank you to First Grade Crush for the gig. It was such a good time. I feel completely re-energized by it, and hope that maybe someday I'll get another band together and give rocking a shot again. Until then, though, I'm keeping it on the DL. Peas.
ps -- I took this great polaroid shot tonight, while we were on stage, of about the one hundred kids standing in front of me, all throwing up the rock fingers, completely unprovoked. It's like their own little sign language. You just say, "I'm going to take a picture of you guys for my mom" and they just do it, without thinking. It's such a great picture. Maybe I'll put it up here tomorrow. Peaches.
