Let's see. Here are the albums I listened to on my pleasant little four and a half hour drive up here:
(1) Elliott Smith, either/or: Still the best one he's put out. I, unlike everyone else apparently, didn't get into this guy until XO. I used to get pissed when Zook would play it in the dorms, while I was trying to sleep. I was a bit close-minded back then, and still am today, but much less so. Reference track 12, "Say Yes", still my favorite Elliott Smith song, by a longshot.
(2) Josh Rouse, Under the Cold Blue Stars: I'm still getting into this one. I haven't been able to give it a proper listen since I bought it over a week ago, until today. Much more intricate than his last album, Home, but I'm not sure if it's as good as his first one, Dressed Up Like Nebraska. Can you tell I'm partial? His best song is still "Laughter", found on Home. Moving on.
(3) Firebird Band, The Drive: Chris Broach needs to ditch the bandname, and ditch the band, and go it alone. Why not? He can't keep a drummer or a bassist to save his life, so why bother with the little formalities? Anywho, this EP is intricate, interesting, and much better than the previous album, The Setting Sun and Its Satellites. The only problem that I have with it is the lyrics, which seem to repeat themselves over and over and over ... I think you get the point.
(4) A Tribe Called Quest, Midnight Marauders: Bet you didn't expect to see this one in here, did you? I used to listen to this album a shitload, back in high school, and was surprised to stumble upon it in my traveling CD case. So, I threw it in. Phife Dog needs to stop talking about himself. Track 4, sorry I don't know the name, is retarded, but I still dig almost everything that Q Tip is doing. Reference "Award Tour" and "Oh My God" if you're curious about these guys.
(5) The Police, Greatest Hits: I don't really need to say anything about this one. You'll already know, and if you don't, you're an idiot. Much like I was until recently.
So, that brings us up to speed. I've got Domino's on the way, and I'm pumped to see that 9/11 documentary on CBS, and I couldn't tell you why. I'm not sure I want to be pissed off tonight before I go to bed, but I have a feeling it's a feeling that I'm not going to be able to be avoided.
I wish I had more to say, but I don't.
