Am I really at the Bloomtown Public Library? Yes. Are the keys on this keyboard 10,000 times clackier than me setup at home? Believe it.
NewTopography: Go here if you haven't already been. I'm the idiot that put up Liz's old BLARG address instead of her new one when I switched the page up. I already told her "sorry", now it's time to apologize to anyone who reads this without reading that - you're sorely missing out. Sorry to be you.
Drove by this burnt out husk of a building down the road from my apartment. Apparently, the people that used to live there ***1*** had a party, and someone passed out with a cigarette in their mouth, and then bam-blikkity-tat, no more building. I remember hearing the sirens last night, but I just figured it was a pulled fire alarm at one of the dorms. I can't imagine how much it would suck to be those kids right now.
It got me thinking about what I'd save if my pad burnt down, and I figure I'm kind of lucky because I live on the ground floor and the screen on my window's already broken, so I wouldn't have any problems throwing shit out the window before getting out myself. First would be a tie between the laptop and the guitar. Irreplaceable on both accounts. The next one is the tricky part. I'm going by (a) value (b) replacability and (c) likeliness of getting it out before getting singed to death. I'd have to go with the music collection to be honest. Its a picker-upper. And, if only had three minutes, these are the top 5 cd's I'd grab ***2***:
(1) "What's Going On?", Marvin Gaye - I'd be a bit depressed, almost certainly, and this would help me work through that and also make me realize that I don't have it all that bad. Check track - "War is Hell"
(2) "Change" and "Emergency & I", Dismemberment Plan - Sure, I'd be depressed, but what better than D Plan to pick me back up again? Check track(s) - "Following Through" and "The City"
(3) Entire BRAID collection, Braid - I have no qualms admitting that I've always been a bit of a Braid nut. I can't comprehend not having these records. I also own the old "I'm Afraid of Everything" t-shirt, which I've heard tell is selling for something like $70 on Ebay nowadays. Dang! Check track(s) - "Yawn London", "Grace Car, pt.1", "Urbana's Too Dark", "Stawberryann Switzerland", etc.
(4) "Girls Can Tell", Spoon - Another pick-me-up selection. This is just about as close to perfection as one band can get on one album. No joke. Check track - "Anything You Want"
(5) Anything Springsteen/Ted Leo, Bruce Springsteen & Ted Leo - No, no, no. They didn't put out a split CD together, though that'd be fucking scrumtralescent. I know, two choices crammed into one, but its just such a hard decision. The Boss or the Ted? Can't do it. He's an "S" and he's an "L". If the extra time I take trying to decide between the both of them means I lose any eyebrow or two, so be it. I'm willing to take that chance. Check track(s) - "Badlands" Springsteen and "Under the Hedge" Leo
***1*** used to = last night
***2*** grouping one artist's collection counts as one CD b/c they're already in alphabetical order. Just have to find it on the rack and toss it out the window.
