ZooK

A kiss and then a kick.

38. The Band--The Band
My dad'll tell you that '69 was thefucking year as far as the world goes, and my bro and I'll tell you that he's stuck there, sorta. One thing that I can't disagree with him on, though, is this album. Specifically, I have to say that "the night they drove old dixie down" has slowly become one of my favorite songs. Just something about the destruction in it, and the beauty of that destruction in relation to the melody. Make no mistake, harmony was cemented HERE. Forget all those folk singing D.bags like Simon and Goooorfoooonkle and Crosby STills and NAsh, cos really those dudes had no testosterone anywhere in their bodies, and were just singing to get chicks and get more drugs****1***. Look at Levon Helm, the Band's drummer, and tell me that he was in it for the chicks. He had a bloody NeckBeard for the love of Marcie.

Did I mention I saw both Rat Race and The Deep End this weekend? Rat Race was at least somewhat funny, though certain parts had the "i don't like things to happen in movies that could never happen in real life" part of me sorta reddening. The Deep End was billed as the "top american movie so far this year" by many critics and left me severely disappointed. It made too much sense, if that makes sense.

No more BLARGing today, in honor of the death of Hank The Angry Drunken Dwarf. Am I supposed to be sad when a biggoted, drunk, smelly guy who once said "why don't you go and have sex with Jesus Christ?" is dead? Well. I am. He was, in the words of Jeff Tweedy, "Back in his old neighborhood, and the booze tasted so good, he's kinda misunderstood"***2***

Next five: "que chiraz" by hey mercedes; "count down from ten thousand, you bloody fascists" by loisdelane; "iris" by boilermaker; "joan jett of arc" by clem snide; and "shadows sink into shadows of Marcie's slightly oblong shadow" by the lois lane get two.

***1***Not that there.....no, there IS something wrong with that.
***2***OK, so Tweedy only said one word of that. Sue me. Papers can be sent to 234 Lois Lane in care of Dee Bagg.
