Remember when I said I'd be writing a little everyday as part of my 2005 New Year's Resolution? I've held it up. Only problem is I've been writing teaching/pedagogy essays instead of blogs. Sheesh.
Here's a quick recap of the last two weeks, roughly:
(a) I kind of, sort of caused a one-car accident on I-43, just north of Milwaukee. I wasn't involved directly in the accident, but I still think I caused it. I was the "slow" car in the right lane (slow = 73mph). Some d-bag came flying down the road and tried to pass another car, came up behind me without realizing I was there, tried to get back in the passing lane and completely lost control of his car and went flying into the ditch. He was probably doing 90+ mph. I didn't stop.
(b) I had last week off. I filled out a lot of job applications. I am keeping track with a map of the greater Chicagoland area on the bulletin board above the computers in our apartment. I use pushpins and stick them on the towns where I've sent applications. It kind of feels like I'm getting ready to start some diabolical plan to take over the world, and this is where I've decided to start. Look out, La Grange, IL. You're first. Mwa-ha-ha-ha!
(c) I did laundry two weeks in a row. Nothing makes my significant other more happy than having the laundry done by the time she comes home on a Wednesday night. A happy Annie means a happy Marc. I did laundry two weeks in a row.
(d) I went to a job fair at Northern Illinois University last Monday. If you've never been to one, you're not missing out on much. You bring a bunch of resumes, stand in very long lines, sit down and talk about yourself for about five minutes, smile, shake hands, and move on to the next line. The above is what it looked like to me after about an hour in one particular line. I couldn't see the tables of the schools anymore. I could just see the other teaching candidates. So many people. So few jobs. It is kind of a vicious thing to go through.
(e) I rented Madden 2005 this past weekend, and had my ass handed to me two consecutive games by Jesse. I didn't even know he played the game, and still I couldn't do shit. It made me very sad.
(f) I used my 4-track every day last week, and for the first time since 1998, I wrote and recorded a full song. Lyrics and everything. And, this is probably the first time since I was about 15 that I personally sang the song. It was kind of embarassing sitting in my apartment and singing into my microphone, only because I thought that the neighbors might be listening and laughing at me. To my horror, after I finished I realized that I had left the front door slightly ajar. That was the part where I looked sad and said, "d'oh."
That's it. Goodnight.
