Then he asked me if I was a student too. I said no, I was a teacher. What did I teach? African literature. Now that was funny, he said, because he never had thought of Africa as having that kind of stuff, you know. -- by Chinua Achebe in "An Image of Africa" on being confronted by another professor at a university which employed them both
One. Okay. Scoot. I'm looking in your direction for the answer to this one. Less Than Jake's album Anthem has "Look What Happened" at track number three. Is this their newest record, or is this the last one they put out? I thought that song was on Borders and Boundaries, or whatever the name of the album that's out on Epitaph was. Mother Russia, I don't geet it! And, speaking of albums, you should all scroll down to Rick's post about new albums he's been listening to. I'm not quite so sure he was all that discriminating in his rankings. In fact, I'm not sure that those are the actual rankings of those albums. What gives Rick? A Plusses all around? Something seems fishy here.
Two. I know no one's missed me, but in case you were wondering, my apartment has been without WWW access for going on five/six days. I think it started going out last Tuesday. You know how fucking annoying it is to not know when or if your internet is going to work? We don't have a phone line here, so no DSL means we ain't got jackshit to connect with, and I ain't about to drive to the damned library to check my email. I'd probably just open it all the way up, find two or three porn emails, two Viagra-like product emails, and five from my parents about random stuff. And that would be that. Stupid internet.
Three. I was hungover all damn day yesterday. I didn't even get that drunk, but when I went back through the night I realized I drank at least one of the following beers: Budweiser, Bud Light, Keystone Light, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Amstel Light, and a Newcastle. That made for a head rattling in the skull yesterday during the morning, afternoon, and evening. I sat on the couch with the intimate companion and watched television all damned day long. Check it. Yesterday was, despite the hangover, very nice.
Four. But that's all about to change. The internship kicks in this week, and if any of you are subscribers to The Journal of the Guilded Age and the Progressive Era, you'll become familiar with my work starting in January. I begin work on putting the thing together Wednesday. I'm kind of curious to see how an academic journal gets pieced together. Hopefully I'll make some connections, too. Maybe my hopes are way too high for this gig. "Dude! Gig's off!" Sorry. Bad inside joke. I have a ukelele, you know.
Up Next: The Instinct by Denali; Loses Control by Hey Mercedes; and, Reconstruction Site by the Weakerthans.
Tomorrow: Good Cop/Bad Cop.
