Saw John Q. tonight, and it wasn't that bad. I always have liked Denzel Washington, for some reason that I can't put my finger on. Though I think he does too many of those preachy movies, but whatev. Ever since I saw X when I was a kid, I was hooked. Completely. I even had an X hat, much to the dismay of my junior high friends at the time. I found it in a clearance bin in JCPenney's at the local mall. I was down. The Autobiography of Malcolm X is still one of my favorite books, even if I have read it so many times the back cover has fallen off. I know, I know. I come from a non-suburb, in the middle of Illinois, and there weren't any minorities to speak of in my high school ***1***, but still, I wish I could've been down.
John Q. had some important things to say about healthcare and criminal issues, obviously. What do you do about a man who takes hostages to try and get his son's life saved? Valid questions. It was a hard movie to watch, because there was so much going on in it and they were tackling some nailbiting issues, but I'd definitely reccomend it as a renter, at least. No huge car crashes and whatnot, so don't kill yourself to see it on the big screen.
Besides that, nothing new to report. Getting ready to read and then fall asleep. Hopefully I'll be able to get 10+ hours of sleep like I did last night, though I have much less of a need for it. I was talking to Matt earlier about how strange it is that our apartment has four dudes in it who rarely get to sleep before 2 am. I've always been the late nighter in every apartment or dorm room I've lived in before, and this is awesome not having to worry about being quiet all the time. Word.
***1*** Though the school less than three miles away in an adjacent town (read - Kankakee) was over 75% minority. Think about them apples for a few minutes.
