100,000 fireflies flash as blinking eyes
Don't be turned off by First Grade Crush as a band name. Their new CD is, for lack of a better term, absolutely killer. I've been fortunate enough, over the last few years, to be able to hang out/live/kind of tour/be friends with the guys in the band, and I'm proud to call them my friends. I spent about a half hour last night listening to each track and comparing it with the lyrics in the liner notes and whatnot. What I thought the lyrics to most of their songs were, and what they actually ended up being, were totally different. Their last album, "It's Not You, It's Me", is good in its own ways, but I'll honestly say that I don't think it could hold a candle to their new one. The artwork looks surprisingly good, the songs sound great. They've got a real meaty sound to the guitars and bass that bands don't seem to do much anymore in the independent punk scene. Chris, the singer/guitarist, simply knows his way around his hooks and riffs. If you get the chance to see them - go. If you see their album in a record store - buy it. They are one of those bands that truly deserves some respect for sticking together and continually writing great music.
Finals are almost over for me. Two more papers tonight, one fluff of a test tomorrow afternoon, and its off to Brainslessville for me. I don't think I'm going to think for a month, at the very least. The most calculating processes I'll be going through is how much money to throw down in Vegas. That's it. I'm just going to get some Mai Thai's in Hawaii and get my fatass a tan.
