I'm watching John Kerry approach the podium to the sounds of the Boss ringing through the background. And, in case you were wondering at all, yes, all I've been doing lately is watching television. It's the only thing I have to talk about because it's the only thing that's been keeping my interest these past few weeks. I've had a lot on the brain, and it's the only thing that helps. Just keep that in mind.
I'll have to say that I've been pretty moved over the course of the past week watching all of these speeches and hearing all of this rhetoric about the upcoming election. Of course my personal biases are playing a big role here - (a) I f'in hate G.W.B. with a passion that is beyond reproach (b) I f'in hate mudslinging and negative advertisements in political campaigns, and***1*** (c) I f'in hate listening to politicians talk because they're so transparent in a faux-non-transparent type way.
So, keeping that in mind, too, just think about me sitting in various hotel rooms, alone, sitting in front of my computer, watching Democrat after Democrat get up and give speeches that basically say, "We're going to tell it like it is," "We're going to take the high road in the campaign," "We're going to say 'enough is enough' to those smarmy little Repub-bitches and cut all those ridiculous-ass tax cuts for the rich and start helping out the middle- and lower-classes," and, to quote John Edwards, "Hope is on the way." Great. Sign me up. It feels like this has finally moved past a campaign based solely off the "He's not Bush" stance that proliferated his campaign from the beginning. It's finally beginning to feel like a campaign based off of real political stances and promises.
Obama on Tuesday was fantastic. He's got my vote signed, sealed, and delivered. Edwards did a decent job last night. The whole humble origins thing is getting a bit old, but that's okay. Mainly, I'm thinking that Kerry saying "I'm not going to lie ... I'm not going to ruin the environment ... I'm not going to wage false wars ... and, I'm not going to appoint a borderline-schizo Attorney General/God-loving songwriter to re-write the Constitution" is a good thing.
And, yes, he's not Bush.
Go John Kerry?***2***
***1*** Holy shit. That "I'm John Kerry and I'm (hand salute) reporting for duty" line was LAME! It almost makes me want to stop writing this and turn off the television.
***2*** Go Marshall Faulk?
