Marc

Spokane, Washington

I'm better today. I've clocked in close to 18 hours on the job, including travel time through Chicago and Denver, and tons of hours of on-site work. I'm dirty, but a happy dirty. I've got a nice, hot shower ten feet away, and I'm going to use it. I'm not going to get out until all the hot water is gone. They'll have to drag me away, kicking and screaming, and, of course, singing "Rubber Ducky". I'm a sucker for the Muppets, man.

I've got to say that I agree with almost all of the things Zook was saying about Star Wars. I think Lucas really is shoving one up our collective asses with each new movie he puts out, but at the same time I'll go see them. I believe Zook never saw these movies as a kid. Maybe I'm wrong. I know that they were a huge part of my life growing up, and that I had a love for them close to the love I bear for the Lord of the Rings novels as well. In fact, I haven't had much of a desire to see The Fellowship of the Ring for a second time, though I'm sure I will soon. I don't know. Star Wars seems to be just going off and off into random tangents and directions. Like Luke said at one point - "it seems like George Lucas is writing these movies around stuff that he said in the first trilogy". Roughly translated - "too much to cram into good movies, so he has to make bad movies instead". This doesn't mean I will stop loving episodes IV through VI now, or that I won't go see Episode III whenever it comes out.

I kind of like the fact that, although the previous films all seemed to center around Luke Skywalker, the entire story is mainly that of the rise and desperate fall of Anakin Skywalker. It's interesting for people our age, who are so used to the embodiment of evil, Darth Vader, to see him in the guise of a blessed child and how he is taking this turn. That's not saying that Lucas is making the right decisions (ie - Anakin/Amedala's marriage is a joke - only there because he had to do it to make Luke and Leia cause he said that's how they were born - I'd like to see how he manages to get them into the next one).

Anywho, I've probably said enough. The special effects really are almost worth it. That Yoda saber fight - awes. Totally awes.
